No. BIA-4a (Formerly SIA-4d)
Subject:
Megalink Service Identifiers for Incoming PSTN Calls
Bell Canada announces greater flexibility in assigning call types
(service selectors) and service identifiers on Megalink (PRI) facilities. Subject to
market demand, this capability is expected to become available in IQ'97.
Incoming PSTN calls (other than Inwats or Toll-Free
Service) have generally been routed over a Megalink facility with a service selector
(calltype) of PUBLIC. This precluded the use of a Service Identifier (SID) which could be
used by CPE to provide special routing instructions. Service selector FX, which permits
the use of a SID, was previously not implemented in Bell Canada. By generic definition,
service selector FX is used when the customers location is remote from the serving
office. The use of service selector FX will now be available for incoming PSTN calls,
other than Inwats or Toll-Free Service, permitting the use of a SID for these
calls. A service selector of FX is specified in the Network Specific Facilities (NSF)
Information Element of the Setup message.
Compatibility Impact:
Terminal equipment conforming to Nortels Interface document NIS
A211-1 version 6 referenced by Bells Disclosure Document BID-0005 is not expected to
be impacted. Service selector FX with SID is an existing functionality, which will be made
available, upon request, for non foreign exchange service. The service selector PUBLIC (no
NSF information element) will still be used for PSTN incoming calls when no Service
Identifier is required.
Documentation:
Service selector FX with SID is described in Bell's Terminal-to-Network Interface
Disclosure BID-0005 (Megalink), and
Nortels publication NIS A211-1,
Release 6, "ISDN Primary Rate User - Network Interface Specification".
